chief david petraeus his job. kelley would e-mail general john allan something like saw you on television and you were terrific and allan would respond with "thanks, sweetheart:" but another senior defense official said some of the e-mails appeared to be more than just friendly exchanges or terms of endearment. allan was in line to become the military head of nato and that is now on hold. so who exactly is jill kelley? she is a 37-year-old married mother of three. she's done a lot of volunteer work with the military in florida but cbs reporter john miller tells us she was caught claiming to be someone she wasn't. >> dr. scott kelley a prominent tampa surgeon and his wife jill, a socialite, are on all the right vip lists at the air force base, but according to current and former military officials, jill was a force to be reckoned with. kelley participated in events to welcome officer from foreign countries and was even given a certificate naming her honorary ambassador. a state department spokesman went to pains to say the obvious today she was never an official u.s. ambassador.

morning. >> reporter: good morning, michelle and frank. yeah, david petraeus is on capitol hill right now the second of two hearings scheduled to be under way right now. so he has been called here to testify about benghazi, although some of the lawmakers here may be tempted to ask him about his extramarital affair. >>> reporter: former cia director david petraeus is headed to capitol hill this morning to talk about the attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi. congressional leaders say he has a unique insight into the attack. >> director petraeus went to tripoli and interviewed many of the people as i understand it that were involved. >> reporter: house and senate intelligence committee members spent thursday interviewing top military and intelligence officials. they were also shown a video taken from surveillance cameras from the consulate and from drones flying overhead. >> it does begin from when the incident --before the incident started and goes through the incident and the exodus. >> reporter: but as thorough as thursday's briefing was, members still have a lot of questions. >>

petraeus. cbs reporter bob orr on the fbi's investigation. >> reporter: sources say cia director david petraeus was never the target of an fbi investigation. but when his name surfaced in another probe, agents became concerned that petraeus or his e-mail accounts may have been compromised. it all began a few months ago when a female acquaintance of the cia director received a series of harassing e-mails. which apparently referenced petraeus. the woman who sources say is not a government official notified the fbi. federal agents quickly traced those e-mails back to petraeus' biographer paula broadwellment it then revealed evidence of the extramarital affair including numerous cryptic e- mails between the retired four star general and broadwell. she spent time with petraeus in afghanistan doing research for her book "all in -- the education of general david petraeus." last february on a tour, the married mother of two children made this comment -- >> i'm not in love with david petraeus but i think he does represent a terrific role model for people, men and women no matter what. >> report
